Background of the Study
Immunization is one of the most effective methods for preventing childhood diseases, including measles, polio, and tuberculosis. In Sokoto State, where childhood diseases continue to contribute to high morbidity and mortality rates, nurse-administered immunization has been a key intervention in reducing these rates. Nurses, particularly those in community health and outreach programs, are often at the forefront of administering vaccines and educating parents about the importance of immunization (Abubakar et al., 2023).
However, despite the availability of vaccines, the immunization coverage in Sokoto State remains inconsistent, largely due to factors such as low awareness, cultural resistance, and logistical challenges. This study will explore the impact of nurse-administered immunization programs on childhood disease prevention in Sokoto State, examining how nurses’ roles in vaccine administration and education influence immunization rates and the prevention of childhood diseases.
Statement of the Problem
Immunization rates in Sokoto State remain suboptimal, despite the critical role of vaccines in preventing childhood diseases. While nurse-administered immunization programs have been shown to improve vaccination coverage, challenges such as misinformation, cultural barriers, and limited access to healthcare services continue to hinder efforts. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of nurse-administered immunization in reducing childhood disease prevalence in Sokoto State and identify strategies for improving vaccine coverage.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the effectiveness of nurse-administered immunization programs in preventing childhood diseases in Sokoto State.
2. To explore the role of nurses in educating parents about the importance of immunization and disease prevention in Sokoto State.
3. To identify challenges faced by nurses in administering vaccines and improving immunization rates in Sokoto State.
Research Questions
1. How effective are nurse-administered immunization programs in preventing childhood diseases in Sokoto State?
2. What role do nurses play in educating parents about the importance of immunization in Sokoto State?
3. What challenges do nurses face in administering immunization and increasing vaccine coverage in Sokoto State?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurse-administered immunization programs significantly reduce the prevalence of childhood diseases in Sokoto State.
2. Nurses who provide education on immunization have a positive impact on parents’ willingness to vaccinate their children in Sokoto State.
3. Barriers such as logistical issues, lack of resources, and cultural resistance hinder the effectiveness of nurse-administered immunization programs in Sokoto State.
